Bethenny Frankel has opened up about a scary incident relating to her life-threatening fish allergy — after a plane she was on turned around when fish was served on board.
Frankel claimed on Twitter that she had tried to tell the airline prior to going on the aircraft that she had the potentially deadly allergy.
When she got on the plane, she learned they were serving bass. When the captain suggested that they turn around, Bethenny revealed she didn’t want to be a nuisance to the other passengers. As it turns out, her allergy can actually be fatal to her without her actually consuming fish.
Called airline mult x to say I have fish allergy. Got on & they’re serving bass. They couldn’t not serve it they said. Then they were turning around which I protested bc it would delay people. Cabin asked to not serve it & pilot made announcement to plane. That was fun. #epilife

On Twitter, she explained that fish allergens can be transmitted by air and touch. In other words, the fish being served on the plane could potentially have caused her major issues.
To clarify: some allergens are transmitted by touch & air. Fish is one & is fatal. The more exposure to them, the more susceptible. It’s not like an immunity thing where more exposure means less susceptible. It’s opposite. I’ve always kept it quiet but that’s over now.

A few weeks ago in mid-December, Bethenny revealed that she had fallen unconscious after consuming fish — and was reportedly just minutes away from dying.
She revealed at the time that she would never not carry an EpiPen after it saved her life. Yesterday, she revealed that actually carries two of them just in case.

Bethenny was also affected by her fish allergy while filming The Real Housewives of New York last year, when she consumed some soup with fish in it.
This happened while the ladies were traveling, with Frankel left throwing up in the bathroom and telling the producers that her throat was closing on her.
While Frankel hasn’t provided a name for the allergy she suffers from, it’s possible that she has the rare allergy that includes finned fish rather than the common shellfish allergy. This would mean she’s allergic to fish such as bass, salmon, trout, and more.
The Real Housewives of New York is expected to return to Bravo in the spring.
