Destiny’s Child fans were surprised just days ago after learning that Michelle Williams got mental health help in order to deal with her ongoing battle with depression. With seemingly everything in her life going right, many were shocked to hear of Williams’ battle but many have also shared their happiness that she is receiving help.
News that Michelle Williams sought help was shared by the Destiny’s Child singer herself. Michelle took to Instagram on Tuesday to explain her situation and to let readers know what she was doing to get mental health help for herself.
“Sending you all the strength & love! It’s hard to focus on yourself when you’re so used to helping others. It takes a LOT to put that focus on yourself (in my case I feel so selfish which I rationally know it isn’t) you sharing this will help people realise [sic] this also,” Michelle captioned her photo.
According to TMZ, Michelle Williams checked herself in at a mental health facility outside of Los Angeles and has already been receiving treatment for several days. This isn’t the first time that she’s addressed her own battle with depression.
It turns out that Michelle’s mental health struggles even affected her back in the early 2000s when she and the rest of Destiny’s Child were busy tearing up the charts and dominating the radio stations. That alone is proof that depression can affect anyone at any time, even if you’re on top of the world.
During an appearance on The Talk, Michelle admitted that she recalls suffering from depression as young as 13 to 15 years old. She also told the panel that she has been suicidal.

You have given unselfishly of your time and support to so many and I know that you will be the best example of self-care which we all need. Keep being a warrior and an advocate.
