Kat Von D announced the arrival of her baby boy on Sunday, sharing a very gothic photo of her husband, Leafar Seyer looking stoic as he holds their newborn son with their black buggy parked behind him.

What is the story behind Leafar’s name?

Kat also shared her son’s name, Leafar Von D Reyes, clearly after both parents but he’s taken on his dad’s famous first name. Many who follow the goth couple know that the elder Leafar was actually born Rafael Reyes. He reversed all of the letters, creating his new name, Leafar Seyer, which is the name he uses now with his band, Prayers.

Rafael is another spelling of Raphael, which is a Hebrew name meaning “God is healer” or “God has healed.” And while the reversed spelling version of the name doesn’t have an official meaning, it comes directly from Rafael, as that is his father’s birth name.

On Instagram, Kat Von D wrote, “Meet our beautiful baby boy, Leafar Von D Reyes. Thank you to all our beloved friends+family+fans+followers for your patience in us announcing his long awaited arrival!”

“To be honest, my husband @prayers and I want to take the next 40 days [the 4th trimester] to focus on the baby and our amazing relationship transitioning into amazing parenthood,” Kat continued. “So please excuse us if we’re not on here as much for a little while. Just know that we love you all and thank you for all the words of love+support.”

Fans of the makeup mogul are thrilled to hear news that her son Leafar has been born. Kat Von D has shared a bit of her pregnancy journey with her followers but has been notably not as visible on social media for the past several months as she prepared for motherhood.

Kat Von D’s pregnancy came with controversy

It was her June pregnancy announcement that spurred backlash after Kat shared her intentions to not vaccinate her then-unborn child. While there has been some mention of that controversy in her birth announcement, most of the comments were of the congratulatory type.

It’s not clear exactly when Leafar was born. Based on Kat’s message, it sounds like they didn’t rush to social media to share their news, which means he could be days or weeks old. We’ll have to stay tuned and wait for more updates.
