Cardi B did it — she won! After an absolutely crazy year, Cardi can add one of the highest honors possible to her list of accolades. She won a Grammy for Best Rap Album.
Invasion of Privacy hit the top of the Billboard charts when the album debuted in April 2018. Ever since, Cardi B has scored hit after hit from her debut album, even beating Beyonce’s record for the most singles on the charts at one time with 13 tracks compared to Beyonce’s twelve.
When she took the stage to accept the award, Cardi couldn’t compose herself. She was in tears, shocked that she won the coveted award.
She had every right to be stunned as she was up against some heavy competition. Also nominated were Travis Scott, Pusha T, Nipsey Hussle
The album has boosted Cardi B’s career beyond what she could have imagined and when she accepted her Grammy, after thanking many off her crew, the new mom made sure to thank her daughter Kulture for pushing her to get it done.
Cardi explained why she was so thankful to her daughter. She only had three songs that were definitely going on Invasion of Privacy and explained that she wanted to get the album done and get the music videos shot before she started to show.
So Cardi showed the world what kind of hustle she really has in her and she got the album done in time and not only that, but it was done so well that it won her the Best Rap Album Grammy and a bunch of other awards.
In addition to winning the award, Cardi B made Grammy history because she is the first female solo artist to win Best Rap Album. The only other woman on that list is Lauryn Hill, who won the award with The Fugees in 1997 with The Score.
Making their reconciliation official, Cardi was accompanied to the Grammy stage by her husband Offset of Migos. He stayed by her side throughout the speech, causing many to wonder exactly why he was even up there.
After winning the award, Cardi B made sure to pay homage to Mac Miller, telling everyone that she is sharing her award with him.
This has truly been a blockbuster year for Cardi B.
