It’s finally here — Adele’s first new song in three years: Hello. Full of emotion and power, the song is set to be the first single on her new album 25, which will be released on November 20, five years after her smash hit album 21. The video, shot by renowned director Xavier Dolan, was filmed in Montreal and features Adele telling the story of the aftermath of a relationship breakdown.
The six-minute video starts with Adele arriving at an old house in the countryside where she tries to make a call but struggles due to a bad signal. The house has stood empty for a long time and after going inside she removes the dust covers and makeshift sheets used for curtains. The video then shows Adele recalling her past relationship and singing a message to her lost lover, with flashbacks to scenes of them arguing in the past. You can read the lyrics below.
Lyrics for Adele’s Hello
Hello, it’s me. I was wondering if after all these years
you’d like to meet, to go over everything.
They say that time’s supposed to heal you, but I ain’t done much healing.
Hello, can you hear me. I’m in California dreaming about
who we used to be. When we were younger, and free.
I’ve forgotten how it felt before the world fell at our feet. There’s
such a difference between us, and a million miles.
[Chorus:]
Hello from the otherside, I must have called a thousand times,
to tell you I’m sorry for everything that I’ve done.
But when I call you, you never seem to be home.
Hello from the outside. At least I can say that I’ve tried, to tell you
I’m sorry for breaking your heart.
But it don’t matter, it clearly doesn’t tear you apart any more.
Hello. How are you? It’s so typical of me to talk about myself, I’m sorry.
I hope that you’re well. Did you ever make it out of that town where nothing ever happened.
It’s no secret that the both of us are running out of time.
[Chorus:]
Hello from the otherside, I must have called a thousand times, to tell you I’m sorry for everything that I’ve done. But when I call you, you never seem to be home. Hello from the outside. At least I can say that I’ve tried, to tell you I’m sorry for breaking your heart. But it don’t matter, it clearly doesn’t tear you apart any more.
