Remy Ma, born Reminisce Smith, is currently going through a healthy pregnancy, expecting her first child with husband Papoose later this year. The couple, who had been very open about their struggles to conceive were over-the-moon excited to announce that they were finally pregnant at their vow renewal this past summer.
Even though Remy struggled to get pregnant while filming Love and Hip Hop: New York, she actually has a child. She’s the mother of Jayson, an 18-year-old young man who just graduated high school early.
On Instagram, she recently revealed that she was super proud of his achievements and excited to be sending him off to college. Papoose also has a child from a previous relationship, Dejanae Mackie.

Little is known about the father of Remy Ma’s son, Jayson. Remy doesn’t talk about him on social media or on the shows she’s filming for VH1. In addition, her son Jayson hasn’t released any statements about his father either.
These days, Remy Ma is 16 weeks pregnant and due in December. She and her husband Papoose announced the pregnancy news at a vow renewal ceremony this summer, with her writing on Instagram:
“Oh yea…& then this happened. I’ve been eating right, working out, and preparing for this for almost a year. We are so happy; thank you to everyone that prayed for us and sent blessings our way. Sidebar: been super sick, lost an extra 7 pounds but I’m soooo much better now And a special thank you to everyone who helped me pull this day together in 72hours (y’all know I think I’m an event planner).”
Remy had one Fallopian tube removed when she was 17. At the time, she didn’t think much of it, as children were not on her mind.
As she revealed in an interview with The Cut, it wasn’t important to her. But as a married woman, it meant something to her. The doctor had told her that she would be fine having another child, as her ovaries, eggs, and uterus were all find. She was told to do IVF.
While filming Love and Hip Hop, Remy Ma learned that while she was pregnant and without IVF. Unfortunately, the pregnancy was an ectopic pregnancy and the fetus had to be removed. Remy was forced to have her other Fallopian tube removed, meaning that she would have to use IVF in order to get pregnant now.
It was devastating to watch, especially since Remy Ma and Papoose really wanted this child. Now, the two can look forward to a bundle of joy come December.
Remy Ma decided to be open about her miscarriage because her husband reminded her that she wasn’t the only woman going through this.
“I had been really depressed and then my husband said, you’re not the only woman going through this. And, like everything else that he said, I did not want to hear it. But then, a light bulb went off.”
“I was like, you know what, you’re right. Why doesn’t anybody talk about it? I’ve never heard anybody say oh I’ve had an ectopic pregnancy. Or I’ve had two ectopic pregnancies and now I can’t have children. You’re embarrassed, ashamed, disappointed,” she explained.
Meet the Mackies airs on Mondays at 9/8c on VH1.
