As Season 6 of 90 Day Fiance winds down, many of the couples have split including Fernanda Flores and Jonathan Rivera.
What was once considered one of the more promising relationships on the show seemed to fall apart overnight and now, Jonathan is opening up about why his marriage to Fernanda didn’t work out.
Fernanda and Jonathan’s split came right at the end of 2018. 90 Day Fiance fans noticed her absence on New Year’s Eve when he posted a photo to Instagram about spending the holiday with his mother.
Fernanda was nowhere in sight and when asked why, Jonathan let fans know she had decided to leave.
It all went down during another of the newlywed couple’s explosive fights and Fernanda reportedly got on a plane. Jonathan said she had a change of heart and wanted to come back but this time, he put his foot down, tired of all the back and forth.
On Thursday, Jonathan Rivera spoke to In Touch about his split from Fernanda, revealing that they haven’t even spoken to each other since December 22.
“I haven’t spoken to Fernanda since December 22,” he said. “I have a lot going on and so in the midst of all the craziness, I try to focus on what’s important.”
“My feelings for Fernanda were real and Fernanda’s feelings for me were real. Fernanda’s not a gold digger. Fernanda didn’t come here for a green card,” Jonathan continued. “What happened was things change, things change and people change and I can’t help that.”
In his lengthy explanation of what happened, Jonathan pointed out that Fernanda is only 20 years old now and being that young, things just change. Clearly, she wasn’t ready to settle down with a man who had already done his partying.
Previously, when a fan asked on Instagram about his split with Fernanda, Jonathan responded.
“
In the wake of their split, Jonathan said that he was always Fernanda’s biggest fan and that he hopes they can “amicably resolve this situation.”
