This week’s Shark Tank on ABC features the motivational startup #besomebody, an online marketplace which allows you to learn things you’re passionate about.
But what’s the story behind it and how does it work?
#besomebody began as a hashtag on Twitter back in 2009, which founder Kash Shaikh turned into a blog in 2011. Then, in 2014, he finally turned it into a company.
What it does is simple — it provides a marketplace where you can book an experience with an instructor near you to learn about something you’re passionate about.
There are currently more than 400 experiences available on the network, including everything from skydiving to pottery to motocross.
To use it you just download the app, sign up and get going. Alternatively, if you’re an expert in your field you can also sign up to be an instructor, known in #besomebody lingo as a “Passionary”.
The firm claim you can earn up to $4,000 a month teaching others their passions.
The company is also expanding, with a new section set to launch in February 2017 providing a marketplace for vocational training where people can learn skills to help them get a job.
