Fans slam Below Deck guest for saying ‘chicken is what poor people eat’

Below Deck guest Kari Klein ruffles the crew’s feathers on tonight’s episode after complaining about the chicken, resulting in one offended diner shrieking, “chicken is what poor people eat!”

Poor Chef Adrian Martin spent a good bit of time presenting his fare with a loving description of his deconstructed, fresh-perspective dish, aka, oven steamed chicken breast, and this is the thanks he gets!

A few bites in Kari clucks, “who ordered chicken?” No one is brave enough to ‘fess up to ordering the offending fowl. Finally Kari concedes, “it is good, but none of us ordered it,” in an off-with-their-heads tone of voice.

A cackle of insults follows, with someone stating the obvious, “It’s still chicken,” leading another imbibing guest to declare in a haughty tone of voice, “It’s chicken.” At this point we feel sorry for the maligned bird and hope he had a good life before his self-esteem and gizzards were roasted to a crisp.

Then the bombshell drops! Emboldened by the name-calling someone declares, “Chicken is what poor people eat,” to which a triumphant guest smugly replies, “You’re not wrong!”  Who are these people?!

The primary guest is Brandy Coffey, and to her credit she keeps her composure amid the bullying of the deconstructed chicken. The M/Y Seanna primary guest is a Sarasota native and manages The Coffey Group Fine Homes International and KW Island Life. Currently she’s also the Operating Principal at KW Island Life. Clearly there are brains behind the brazen beauty!

Kari — or “drunk Kari” as Second Stew Josiah Carter calls her on the episode — is a friend of Brandy’s and a real estate agent with Sarasota Home Specialists.

Nonetheless fans were not impressed with the distinguished guests maligning chicken as poor people’s food!

One viewer had the ultimate comeback to the sassy group: “I say an ounce of pretension is worth a pound of manure!!!!”

Below Deck airs Tuesdays at 9/8c on Bravo.

It is obvious that the statement “Chicken is for poor people” did not come from Kari. What really happened was this is very expensive to be on this cruise. They ask the guest what they want to eat while they are there. Kari did not have chicken on her list. When they served chicken, she merely thought out load. Why when you pay all of that money they serve you chicken? She was expecting seafood like she had on her list. This show gets it’s ratings off of drama. When there is none they have to input some. As is what happen in this case.

Of course this show is edited for the drama, but they can only edit what they’re given. They did not just make up that statement! She said it and they used it, period!

She did say it. I was there. It was embarrassing and humiliating. Needless to say she was escorted back to her room stumbling drunk. We are no longer friends and do not work together. Interestingly enough we checked the preference after our dance party (she was passed out and not invited). Her husband didn’t even make it to dinner. He was too drunk. I am also not a fan of his due to her divulging way too much to me about his behavior when he is drunk. I was fine with him not joining us. She was the ONLY one that had chicken on her preference sheet. She put that she loved chicken parmesan yet her and husband were gluten free. The Chef made a delicious gluten free chicken parmesan. I didn’t even think that was possible. I just put I love all food on my preference sheet. I mean who cares? You are in Bora Bora on yacht. She did not remember a thing at breakfast. I recommended even though she didn’t remember anything that she should apologize to the lovely Chef Adrian. She did apologize, but the classless behavior already changed our opinion of her. I came from nothing and worked in the service industry for years, before I built a big business. You just don’t treat people that way. I eat chicken almost every night! It was not a fun dinner. I was upset, because it was my 40th birthday and she made it all about her and she was just foul.

It takes a big person to own up. That girl was sorely mistaken. Chicken is nutritious and I know many rich people who choose chicken because of the health benefits. I hope she realizes one day what it means to be poor and she will see the hard way. Keep striving for greatness!

I’ve just watched this episode. Thank you for not defending her because that chicken dish looked amazing . Kari was condescending, downright rude and offensive to pretty much everyone of any background and class . She’s
Damn lucky in life , many are not . I’m have to say chicken is
One of the best and most versatile ingredients and as a welsh lady who’s lived in Dubai for 10’years I really appreciate what you have said in above post . I’m sorry that it ended your friendship, but that kind of attitude in a so called friend is dispicable . I would have ended the friendship too xx

Just watched this episode.
Honestly can’t believe that sentence came out of her mouth.
I was actually discussed .
Also just watched seaspiracy today and her comment of we want sea food … people eating sea food is one of the main factors to depletion on sea life as shipping vessels kill alot of whales ,sharks and Dolphins to catch your sea food!
I’m a hard worker like alot of poor people and work hard to keep the roof our my family’s head and feed . Not everyone can afford your life and I feel it’s a real kick in the gut that the rich feel it’s ok to say comments like that and think nothing of it .
Vile woman in my opinion and she deserves to walk a mile in our shoes so she appreciates what she has!
