Laura Kucera’s 1995 true story is more heartbreaking than Netflix Only Mine

Only Mine is the latest stalker movie to hit Netflix. While you’re better off binge-watching You featuring Penn Badgley, Only Mine is also worth watching. It is very loosely based on the true story of Laura Kucera.

At the end of the film, the movie reveals it’s based on the 1995 story of Laura Kucera, who was kidnapped, shot in the head and left to die. Netflix reveals that she lived and her attacker is currently behind bars for the crime.

However, Netflix does not reveal what happened next. Sadly, Laura’s life had a more heartbreaking end.

Here are a few things that happened in the true story not featured in the film:

Laura Kucera was reportedly shot twice in the head and once in the shoulder by her ex-boyfriend Brian Anderson a few days after he finished a jail sentence for violating a restraining order by contacting her.

He was not a police officer. In the movie, Julie, portrayed by Amber Midthunder, gets revenge — Laura unfortunately did not, and it gets worse.

Laura was left in a ditch unconscious for four days before Anderson led authorities to her body.

According to the Chicago Tribune, Laura survived and stated that Anderson told her the following before shooting her “If I can’t have you, the nobody else will.”

The 22-year-old Anderson, who the judge described as a “coward,” was sentenced to 55 years for the crime.

Laura went through physical therapy for over 50 days and learned how to walk again and regain some use of her arms. However, she was tragically killed in a car accident on her way to visiting her grandmother on September 15, 1995.

Laura Kucera was 19 years old when she survived the shooting and died age 20, according to an obituary. There are no available pictures of Brian Anderson or Laura.

Only Mine is dedicated to Laura Kucera and other victims of domestic abuse.

To Laura’s mother, You may rest assured that you raised a brave, strong and beautiful daughter. I know you are still connected in spirit and I am so so sorry for your loss. I believe there will come a day where we all will have to answer to a higher power. Anderson will also answer to that higher power. Some day you will be reunited with your daughter in heaven. Hold on for this will be an amazing reunion. Again … I am so sorry for what you had to endure at the hands of a phsyco.

Ok that’s heartbreaking. The pain and anquish of thinking your daughter has died at the hands of evil, then to find out she’s survived and then to loose her again in a tragic accident. Such a strong girl and so sad that she died so young

Melinda, we don’t know everything. It could be the real Laura is in witnessing protection. If that evil man in bars put out a hit on her she may have decided to start over somewhere else. Hope this helps? [email protected] for answers to other questions.

Why would God allow her to live a tragedy only to be taken in another? If you plan to endure to the end of your life without blaming God for every evil or accident, or suffering you go through you must know that God is absolutely GOOD. It is our enemy that comes to steak, kill and destroy. Whomever you yield your members to is your father. My Father is absolutely good.
