Mia Bally and Tristan Thompson got married on Married at First Sight and what should have been an adventure quickly spiraled into a nightmare after she was arrested at the airport on the way to their honeymoon. It turns out that Mia had an active warrant for her arrest, causing them to miss the Cancun trip and raise tons of questions from MAFS viewers.
On the most recent episode of Married at First Sight, Mia finally had a chance to tell her side of the story. She claimed that the arrest was all a big case of mistaken identity and that she wasn’t the one police were looking for despite having been held for nearly two days after being arrested while trying to get through customs in the DFW airport.
Monsters & Critics was first to report on the charges against Mia, whose full name is Ameaa Janice Bally. We found that she had been accused by an ex-boyfriend named Jared Evans of stalking on multiple occasions.
He also accused Mia of using his Amazon account and credit card information in an attempt to purchase an iPhone and two protection plans for the phone.
Many MAFS viewers questioned how Mia Bally was even chosen to get married on the Lifetime series considering the legal problems she was bringing into the relationship. Apparently, the warrant for Mia’s arrest was issued the day after Married at First Sight background checks were completed.
In the paperwork obtained from the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Department, Mia was accused of three counts of stalking and one count of unlawful use of an access card. Additionally, there were numerous accounts of Mia allegedly showing up, calling and emailing her ex-boyfriend over the course of nearly two years.
On Married at First Sight, when Tristan Thompson questioned his new bride about the warrant, Mia denied even knowing Jared Evans. Quickly she admitted that she did know him but said that he was just a part of their friend group and that it was a small town.
MAFS viewers quickly questioned Mia’s story since much of it just didn’t add up. Especially since the warrant filing said that during one of the previous stalking reports that an officer was taking Evans’ complaint when Mia showed up and was told to stop coming around.
In a sneak peek for an upcoming episode of Married at First Sight, it looks like we’ll be learning more what really happened and whether or not Tristan is willing to continue on in the marriage. “I want to put this behind us and move forward but she lied to me and I feel betrayed,” Tristan said in a one-on-one interview.
It’s not totally clear yet what Mia told Tristan when she “came clean” as he said in the sneak peek below. Clearly, she told him that mistaken identity wasn’t really true and that she actually does know who Jared Evans is and that he’s not just some guy she’s brushed elbows with in the small town of Monroe, Louisiana.
After a bit of sleuthing, we were even able to find a couple of videos of Mia that her sister shared via Instagram Live. In them, she starts to explain why she lied on Married at First Sight and didn’t just own up to what happened.
In the now-deleted Instagram video, Mia admitted that she lied about knowing Jared Evans and that she did so out of fear. She claims that her ex made up the whole stalking story because he knew she was going on TV and wanted a piece of her fame.
That’s interesting considering how long ago the first report was made. Also considering that Jared Evans has not come forward and made any comment about the charges or the fact that Mia Bally married another man.
On the next episode of Married at First Sight, the sneak peek has already shown that Mia admits she lied to Tristan about at least some of her story. She also reportedly comes clean and tells him the truth, or at least part of it, leaving Tristan feeling betrayed.
When Tristan learns the truth about the warrant and Mia Bally’s arrest, will he want to stay married to her and continue on Married at First Sight or will the experience be too much and send Tristan running?
Married at First Sight airs on Tuesdays at 9/8c on Lifetime.
