It’s been over a year since Netflix premiered Mindhunter to critical acclaim. Cinematographer Erik Messerschmidt revealed that Season 2 of Mindhunter filming has wrapped, which is a strong indicator of the expected release date.

Messerschmidt shot eight of the 10 episodes in the first season and has returned for the second, which will focus on the Atlanta Murders.

The second season will follow a chronological timeline as the murders attributed to Wayne Williams began in 1979 — two years from the beginning of the first season which was set in 1977.

Agents Holden Ford and Bill Tench will continue to interview serial killers to develop the then infant behavioral science unit of the FBI. As previously reported, the agents are set to interview Charles Manson in the second season.

When will Netflix release Mindhunter Season 2?

Filming wrapped on Mindhunter on December 8, 2018. Post-production usually takes about 6 months on other Netflix originals; therefore, a Summer 2019 release date for Mindhunter Season 2 is realistic. An announcement or trailer for the upcoming season will likely arrive around March of next year.

Mindhunter Season 2 serial killers to look out for

Dennis Rader, also known as the BTK killer, may reprise his role in short scenes throughout the second season. Ted Bundy, Ed Gein, and John Wayne Gacy are among the infamous serial killers that could make an appearance in one of the interview scenes.

Arthur Gary Bishop, Anthony Cook, and Angelo Buono Jr. are serial killers, who were active during the Mindhunter Season 2 timeline.

Mindhunter Season 2 will feature eight episodes and will likely premiere in Summer 2019.

All ten episodes of Mindhunter Season 1 is currently streaming on Netflix.
