A new book about The Curse of Oak Island and featuring exclusive access to Rick and Marty Lagina — the brothers at the center of the legendary treasure hunt — is set for release this December.
The Curse of Oak Island: The Story of the World’s Longest Treasure Hunt is written by former Rolling Stone journalist Randall Sullivan, who has been nominated for the Pulitzer Prize three times in the past.
It chronicles the search for rumored treasure on the Nova Scotian island over a period of more than 220 years, from the discovery of the island’s so-called “Money Pit” back in 1795 up until the present day.
The hardcover book, which will feature a 16-page color photo insert along with Randall’s research, is set to go on sale on December 11 with a price tag of $27.
A spokeswoman for Atlantic Monthly Press, the publishing house behind the book, said: “Sullivan began his research with a piece for Rolling Stone in 2004 and has included sources in this book that no other journalist has investigated, including exclusive access to the Lagina brothers on the History Channel.
“Covering the pit’s discovery in 1795 through the recent efforts of the Lagina brothers, Sullivan expertly separates fact from fiction in this enthralling real-life treasure hunt.
“Pick axes, bulldozers, watertight caissons, underwater photography, divers, and an ever-more-high-tech series of drills have all been employed in the service of uncovering its contents, and still the Money Pit remains an enigma.
“As Rick Lagina says, Oak Island is ‘[a]n Island of what ifs and possibilities.'”
As well as Rolling Stone magazine, Sullivan has also worked for a string of other large publications in the past including The Washington Post, The Guardian, and Wired and Esquire magazines.
His previous non-fiction books include one covering the murders of Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G, and another about the death of Michael Jackson.
Monsters and Critics first revealed Randall’s book about The Curse of Oak Island was in the works back in September 2017, along with a photo showing Sullivan standing with Rick and Marty Lagina.
The Curse of Oak Island Season 6 is set to premiere on the History channel on November 13, and will document the treasure-hunting efforts that have taken place on the island in 2018, which have been the most extensive ever.
As well as further exploration of the “Money Pit” area, operations have also seen the Lagina brothers and their team carry out extensive work in the island’s swamp and the area known as Smith’s Cove.
Trailers and episode descriptions for the upcoming season have hinted that their efforts resulted in them finding gold on the island for the first time in history, as well as a mysterious underground void, and an ancient structure believed to be Roman.
