A string of amazing finds, including what may be the fabled 90-foot stone, were revealed on last week’s special two-hour episode of The Curse of Oak Island. But this week the team uncover something they have waited years to uncover — and possibly more than they bargained for.
In the preview for History’s hit show, the earth movers have scraped away an impressive land mass from the cofferdam area. As Rick Lagina says, “the objective is to dig up and see with our own eyes what that ‘u-shaped structure’ is.”
In the 1970s team legend Dan Blankenship unearthed a mysterious object he termed the “u-shaped structure”, and the team hopes to use his photos and surveys to resolve the mystery that has nagged at Dan for decades.
Last week it looked like that day would never come after the team discovered water pouring in through multiple openings in the dam.
Almost all of the walls were leaking at what Rick called an alarming rate. But an urgent call to the company responsible for the construction of the dam, Irving Equipment Limited, uncovered a fix and the leak was successfully sealed.
It appears that this week the u-shaped structure is revealed when the team spies a chunky log jutting up from the mud. Checking out the massive wood piece, Jack Begley shouts, “Are those Roman numerals? This is awesome!”
Rick then breaks out into his action hero mode yelling, “hold it!” as he jumps into the muck, and grabs the splintery, half buried wood with his bare hands. Later he says, “What a structure. But what was it?”
In another major twist, Gary Drayton finds what appears to be gold again! “Getting a signal here,” he says as he wields his metal detector over a rocky patch of earth in the cove, and then holding something in his hand he exclaims, “Look at that, I can see gold!”
The episode description reads: “After months of tireless effort, Rick, Marty and the team begin the massive excavation at Smith’s Cove and almost immediately strike gold.”
Is the find enough for Gary to bust out his infamous gold dance moves? You’ll have to tune in to find out!
The Curse of Oak Island airs Tuesday nights at 9/8c.
