The Walking Dead spoilers for Season 9 include some story threads that fans have been expecting. There will be big changes when the AMC hit returns and one of them may be the group leader.
In a new report by Skybound, Walking Dead insider Johnny O’Dell opened the door on some plot points for the next season. As he words it, Rick Grimes is definitely going to deal with repercussions for his decisions during the Season 8 finale.
Rick was faced with a difficult decision during the conclusion of Walking Dead Season 8. He bested Negan, taking the upper hand in a long fight to wrap up that particular storyline. Rather than let Negan die of a mortal wound, Rick worked to save Negan’s life. This led to a lot of resentment around camp, including from Maggie, who wanted revenge after Negan killed her husband Glenn.

The intent of the article by Johnny O’Dell was to answer a lot of fan questions that had been sent in from social media. One question read, “What is going to be a bigger threat this year to Rick? Maggie/Darryl or the Whisperers?” The answer that O’Dell gave confirms the suspicions that a lot of AMC viewers had following that Season 8 finale.
“Rick will face a lot of challenges when we return for Season 9 this Fall. As for your question, we saw in the Season 8 Finale that Maggie, Daryl, and Jesus were very much against Rick’s decision to save Negan – and that resentment will continue to cause problems in Season 9.”
Those weren’t the only Walking Dead spoilers that may have come out from this mailbag. It was also noted that the main cast will be on the road more in Season 9.
There will be a larger focus on people who are just trying to survive without fighting, and the characters of King Ezekiel and Richonne are going to have some unique moments.
A lot of changes are coming to The Walking Dead in Season 9, with several main characters likely filming their final episodes. Rick Grimes, played by Andrew Lincoln, and Maggie, played by Lauren Cohan, aren’t signed past the first-half of Season 9.
There are a lot of theories about how these characters’ stories will wrap up on Season 9 of The Walking Dead, but fans are going to have to tune in to find out what happens next.
The Walking Dead will return with new episodes and Season 9 at 10/9c on Sundays in the fall.
