On the Season 6 premiere of 90 Day Fiance, we met Asuela and Kalani, who met while she was on a family vacation in Samoa. While there, Asuelu took Kalani’s virginity and gave her a gift that would change her life.
It turns out that Kalani’s family has a good reason for vacationing in Samoa, though, as her father is also from there and moved to the U.S. as a child.
The Samoan Islands are located in the South Pacific, to the east of Australia and not far from Fiji. The island group is made up of three big islands and seven smaller ones with Samoa being the largest.
There have been some questions about Asuelu’s Visa process and whether it might be different than others because of where he’s from. However, it turns out that Samoans have the same immigration requirements as everyone else, as the two largest islands are independent and not a territory of the U.S.
America Samoa is a U.S. territory made up by seven islands in the same area but it is not the same as Samoa, which was also known as German Samoa from 1911-1917 and then was known as Western Samoa until 1997.
When Kalani visited Asuelu in Samoa, she stayed with him on the second largest island, Upolo and tagged pictures from the Taumeasina Island Resort, which is located on a very small island directly north of Upolo.
The currency in Samoa is the U.S. Dollar and those wishing to visit the area are not required to have a Visa unless they are staying for more than 60 days. U.S. citizens are able to live, work and travel freely through American Samoa without a Visa for indefinite amounts of time but are required to carry a passport.
Based on photos of Samoa posted by Kalani and Asuelu, the South Pacific paradise looks like an incredible place to vacation. It wouldn’t be surprising if the islands saw a surge in tourism after learning about it from Kalani and Asuelu’s journey on Season 6 of 90 Day Fiance.
