The Curse of Oak Island is just about to wrap up Season 4, with a two-hour special due to wind up the digs for this year in reportedly spectacular fashion.
However, it is not clear yet whether the Lagina brothers will return for another season of treasure hunting on the mysterious island.
Series creator Kevin Burns told how despite high ratings that things were not set yet, explaining: “Every year the brothers are very reluctant to agree to do any more. This was always a hard sell for them.”
This partly stems from the fact that it was the TV network that approached the Laginas, not the other way about. Burns also says the pair don’t seek fame and are reluctant reality TV stars at best.
Also the fact Marty and Rick have to spend four or five months a year away from their families, in what can be quite challenging conditions.
They are as committed to the treasure as you could get, though — Burns reckons they have spent $3-5 million in Season 4! That’s a treasure-sized sum in itself so you’d imagine the pair would not be keen to quit quite yet.
Whether they continue to film the show remains to be seen, but we’re cautiously optimistic here at M&C that the high ratings and legion of fans will see the show return.
You can tune in to History Channel on February 26th for the two-hour season finale.
