General Hospital is putting together a very special episode showcasing Maurice Benard’s 25th anniversary as Sonny Corinthos. This special event was teased months ago and now, the details have finally been released.
Sonny Corinthos is a fan-favorite among General Hospital viewers. While not everyone is interested in the mob in Port Charles, it has been the center of attention for over a decade now. Sonny has made a lasting impression on the residents and not all of them are happy to see him walking free.
The General Hospital episode is billed as a “what-if” deal. What would Sonny’s life look like if he hadn’t joined the mob? Life would be different, but some of the elements would remain the same.
A while back, Dominic Zamprogna revealed that he was back to film as Dante Falconeri for one day on General Hospital. Viewers were unsure why he was there, but speculation was that it had something to do with November sweeps.
Dante has been mentioned a lot, and as Sonny’s oldest child, it is only right for him to be a part of the wonder.
Making the episode especially intriguing will be the debut of Joshua Benard, Maurice Benard’s son, playing a younger version of Sonny Corinthos. The young man is just 13 and is the perfect person to be cast in the role. This momentous occasion was special for the father and son, sharing something that was part of his life before his son arrived.
Throughout his 25-year run, Maurice Benard has been nominated six times for the Daytime Emmy category for Outstanding Lead Actor, He won back in 2003 but some are predicting another statue will be his soon.
Back in August, Maurice Benard celebrated his big milestone with the cast and crew at General Hospital.
The special episode of General Hospital featuring Sonny Corinthos’ alternate life airs Monday, November 12 on ABC.
