In a stunning daytime shakeup, The Young and the Restless executive producer and head writer Mal Young has confirmed his departure from the number one rated American soap opera.
Young announced the news to showbiz411’s Roger Friedman, but the former EastEnders honcho apparently has no regrets, saying: “Just arrived in London for the holidays. I felt like it was a good time to move on.
“Never a good idea to get too settled on a long-running soap. I achieved all that I and CBS set out to do: improved scripts and production values.
“I have a project of my own that I’ve been developing and want to pursue that now. Plus running a show like this is all consuming and want to get a bit of my life back – and see my family occasionally!”

Rumored to take his place is former Y&R head writer Josh Griffith.
Young came on board as EP in 2016 and was later installed as head writer. Fans of the iconic soap have been unhappy with the show’s direction for a while now, in particular the write-off of beloved stars such as Doug Davidson who played Paul Williams.
Young has installed a host of new characters, and changed the flavor of the luxe soap. Front and center are the working class Rosales family, in what traditionally has been a glitzy and glamour-filled soap.
The Young and the Restless airs weekdays during the day on CBS and on PopTV in the evening.
