Stars to the Rescue is a special on Animal Planet featuring Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman, actress Selma Blair, NHL star David Backes and others as they share some of their animal rescue stories.
22-year-old gold medalist Raisman is a strong advocate of animal rights and a huge promoter of animal adoption. For years the athlete and her dog Coco were inseparable as she took the pooch all round the country to various charity events. Sadly Coco passed away whilst Raisman was training for the Rio Olymics, a loss she says was hard to handle.
At the time she says it was the hardest things, like losing a family member. But things have looked up since that dark time and while she was taking part in an animal adoption charity photoshoot the gymnast found a new furry friend.
Raisman has also been raising her profile recently and a few eyebrows with a racy photo shoot for Sports Illustrated Swimsuit, where she showed off her incredible body and even appeared in some topless shots.
The young star says the experience was empowering and made her face up to her insecurities, giving her more confidence in herself.
Boston Bruins star David Backes has always been an animal lover and no fewer than five rescue pets. He also set up Athletes for Animals, which aims to support both athletes and animal rights issues.
Backes is also a big believer in getting involved with the local community and, together with his wife, volunteers at various local animal rescue projects.
Also featured on this special show are actress Selma Blair, NFL star Ronnie Stanley and four other stars with their pets.
