Black Mirror, the incredible Charlie Brooker anthology that has taken a chilling look at modern life and technology, is returning this summer to Netflix. This morning, a trailer dropped giving us a few tantalizing hints about what’s in store for Season 5.
The two biggest details found in the new Black Mirror trailer are the number of episodes and the release date. While the two previous Netflix seasons were each six episodes long, Season 5 has only 3 episodes, returning to the original format that originally air for two seasons and a special on Channel 4 in the UK.
There is no word on how long these episodes will run, but it’s possible they’ll have longer run times than one hour, much like Season 3’s Hated In the Nation, Season 4’s USS Callister, and Bandersnatch, the “choose your own adventure” episode released at the end of 2018.
The Black Mirror Season 5 trailer gives us a look at who will be appearing in the upcoming season. This includes Anthony Mackie (Avengers: Infinity Wars and Endgame), Andrew Scott (Sherlock), Topher Grace (BlacKkKlansman), Pom Klementieff (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2), and Miley Cyrus, who appears to play a meta version of herself.
As has happened with the other season releases, we’ll need to wait to see if this will be the last appearance of Black Mirror, or if Netflix will announce the production of a sixth season.
Black Mirror Season 5 will be released on Netflix on June 5, 2019.
