The inaugural Critics’ Choice Real TV Awards saw lots of kudos bestowed upon James Corden, Queer Eye and Netflix.
The Broadcast Television Journalists Association (BTJA) and NPACT announced the winners of the inaugural Critics’ Choice Real TV Awards last night live from the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills.
Leah Remini was chosen as the recipient of the first Impact Award, an annual honor to be given each year forthcoming by the BTJA and BFCA. Remini was recognized for her work for the riveting docu-series Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath.
Comedienne Loni Love (The Real) hosted the ceremony that is set to air Sunday, June 9th on VH1.
The top shows
The series Queer Eye led the winners, with wins for Ensemble Cast in an Unscripted Series, Lifestyle Show: Fashion/Beauty, Male Star of The Year for Jonathan Van Ness.
British star James Corden earned three awards. The Structured Series “The Late Late Show with James Corden” earned multiple awards, for both Late-Night Talk Show (a tie with “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver”) and Show Host for James Corden.
Corden’s “Carpool Karaoke: The Series” took the win for Short Form Series category.
The Relationship Show category had a tie between “Dating Around” and “Married at First Sight.” Netflix was tops for networks in nominations and won the most awards in nine categories.
CBS, CBS Television/Syndicated, Lifetime, NBC, and PBS each earned two awards.

The Broadcast Television Journalists Association (BTJA) is a partner organization to the Broadcast Film Critics Association and is made up of TV, Radio and Internet journalists – including Monsters & Critics – and have joined forces to present the 25th Annual Critics’ Choice Awards. Bob Bain and Joey Berlin served as Executive Producers. Ed Martin serves as President of the BTJA. John Ford is General Manager of NPACT.
