No this is not a drill! A Friends reunion special is in the works at HBO Max. It is the moment Friends fans have been dreaming about since the show ended in 2004.
The Hollywood Reporter was first to break the news that a special is happening. According to the website, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, David Schwimmer, and Matt LeBlanc are all in talks to reunite the group on HBO Max.
Creators of the NBC hit show are reportedly also in talks to helm the new special. The project is currently in the development stages and no deals have officially closed yet.
However, it has been reported the show will not reunite the stars as their characters. Instead, the special will bring the cast and creators together for the first time since the NBC comedy ended 15 years ago.
Aniston recently spilled on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that she and her Friends’ costars were in the planning stages of a project. She made it clear that a Friends reboot was not happening, but the gang was hopefully getting back together.
The news that a Friends reunion is in the works comes two days after Aniston paid tribute to the sitcom during her People’s Choice Icon Award acceptance speech. It was after all the show and role that changed her, as well as her costars, entire lives.
Friends continues to find new audiences in syndication and on Netflix. The show is as popular today as it was during its prime.
As reboots and revivals have become all the rage, fans have been begging for a Friends reboot. People want to know what is going on with Monica, Chandler, Joey, Phoebe, Ross, and Rachel.
The 25th-anniversary celebration of Friends continues with the news that a reunion special is in the works at HBO Max. It may not be the reboot fans have been pushing for, but it is bringing the famous cast together again.
Fans, keep your fingers crossed that this exciting news becomes a reality.
