Tonight on American Ninja Warrior, we get to see Gabe Stewart compete in the Miami City Qualifiers. The Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School teacher is proving that even tragedy can’t keep him down.
The episode was filmed on April 13, just two months after the tragic Parkland school shooting in downtown Miami. The Miami City Qualifiers episode will pay tribute to the victims of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting that occurred on February 14.
With roughly 30 teachers and students cheering him on, all wearing MSD Strong t-shirts, Gabe Stewart made his way through an incredibly difficult course. While Stewart wouldn’t reveal if he finished the course or not, an American Ninja Warriors teaser shows part of his run and it’s safe to say that the 10th-grade history teacher is a force to be reckoned with.
Stewart was a college athlete and no stranger to fitness but even then, he was nervous about competing on American Ninja Warrior. He currently coaches track and field at the high school and also supports the basketball and football programs as an assistant coach. Despite his athletic background, Stewart still needed some help in order to compete in the qualifier for the first time.
With show veteran JJ Woods as his trainer, the newcomer to parkour and the NBC competition series was all heart as he made his way through the course while MSD students and faculty cheered him on. The Sun Sentinel reports that Gabe Stewart was just one of 100 competitors who showed up to Bayfront Park in Miami in hopes of moving on to the finals.
The winner of Season 10 of American Ninja Warrior will receive a $1 million prize. Will Gabe Stewart stay in the running after the Miami City Qualifiers?
American Ninja Warrior airs on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. EST on NBC.
