AMC’s 11 weeks of reveals are gearing up ahead of the Season 11 premiere date for The Walking Dead on August 22. The latest teaser gives viewers their very first look at the comic book character called Mercer.
As previously revealed, Michael James Shaw has been cast as the de-facto leader of the Commonwealth Military.
As yet, he has not appeared in The Walking Dead. However, with Eugene’s (Josh McDermitt) group currently being held by Commonwealth guards, Mercer may be ready to show his face soon.
The Walking Dead Season 11 teaser
The latest clip shared by AMC does not give away much by way of new footage as the teaser is more a stylized representation of what viewers can expect when Season 11 of The Walking Dead drops.
Many of the main characters are shown against bleak backdrops, including Maggie Rhee (Lauren Cohan), Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus), Yumiko (Eleanor Matsuura), Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), and newcomer Princess (Paola Lazaro).
While the characters are shown, many in tense stances or with their weapons at ready, a soundtrack plays over the top.
“Your time has come, who will you become?” are the first words of the song (“Will You Fight” by Klergy), and it is fitting considering Season 10 saw the various groups in hardship.
The communities had been devastated after the Whisperer War, and Season 11 will see them gathering as they try to rebuild. In addition to this, as mentioned before, Eugene’s group had made contact with the Commonwealth and are now being held captive by them.
The comic book series on which AMC’s TV show is based delves much deeper into this group and Season 11 will do the same.
Mercer reveals himself in Season 11 clip
With the arrival of the Commonwealth, comic book fans have been eagerly awaiting Mercer, who is often cited as a fan favorite. The new trailer delivers in this regard, and Mercer is shown taking off his bright orange helmet to reveal his face.
This outfit is similar to the ones worn by guards previously seen in Season 10 of The Walking Dead. However, the color of his outfit is different and signifies his important position.
This clip doesn’t give much away regarding the upcoming storyline regarding Mercer’s arrival other than giving an overall sense of incoming dread or hardship.
However, the comic books are a great source of information regarding what will happen when Mercer arrives. Particularly, fans can likely look forward to a relationship developing between Princess and Mercer as all of the groups struggle with their involvement with the Commonwealth overall.
Season 11 of The Walking Dead will premiere on August 22 at 9/8c on AMC.
