Mindhunter Season 2 wrapped up filming in December after Netflix previously had fans waiting for the series to premiere sometime in 2018.
The second installation comes after the first season was released on Netflix in October 2017 to critical acclaim.
The crime drama, which follows FBI agents Holden Ford and Bill Tench’s efforts to establish FBI’s Behavioral Science Unit, will return with eight episodes in the second season.
When will Netflix release Mindhunter Season 2?
In a recent interview with Inverse, Mindhunter creator Joe Penhall revealed that after filming Season 1, the post-production, spearheaded by executive producer David Fincher, took about six to eight months.
Penhall said that he is not involved in the editorial process but suggested that Season 2 of Mindhunter post-production could be faster due to there being only eight episodes rather than ten.
Therefore, Mindhunter Season 2 will likely premiere around Summer 2019 or sometime in the first half of 2019. Based on the timeline suggested by the series creator, the Mindhunter Season 2 release date could be as early as May 2019.
What to expect in Mindhunter Season 2
As previously reported, the second season will follow the Atlanta Child Murders, which rocked the city in the late 70s and early 80s. The series will also continue its signature serial killer interviews as Holden Ford and Bill Tench continue to develop profiles based on serial killers’ behavior.
Charles Manson is reportedly among the serial killers that will appear on the series.
Other serial killers that may potentially appear will be notable criminals who were incarcerated between 1979 and 1981, which is when the infamous Atlanta murders took place.
Mindhunter Season 2 will premiere sometime in 2019. Fans should expect a trailer or release date announcement shortly from Netflix.
All episodes of Mindhunter Season 1 are currently streaming on Netflix.
