The NCIS: New Orleans return date is coming up much quicker than anticipated.

CBS revealed that that the winter hiatus for NCIS: NOLA isn’t going to last very long and that the first new episode is going to air in early 2021.

We have only been able to enjoy four episodes from Season 7 so far, but the great news is that the schedule will allow for many more episodes in the winter and spring months.

When is NCIS: New Orleans return date?

The 2021 return for NCIS: New Orleans will take place on Sunday, January 3. Season 7, Episode 5 is called Operation Drano, Part I and it marks the first installment of a two-parter for the series.

When we last saw the show, actress Amanda Warren was guest-starring as Mayor Zahra Taylor on the NCIS: New Orleans cast. She was there to ask Pride to join a new task force to address systemic issues plaguing their city.

It was an important storyline that the show was trying to deal with, but it didn’t get completely resolved. It’s something that will certainly resurface later on in Season 7.

As for the winter premiere, CBS has also released an episode synopsis to get people excited. It reads as follows:

“As NCIS investigates a suspicious death and the missing key piece of evidence is a top secret, high tech battery, Pride and the team realize there could be deadly consequences if it falls into the wrong hands, on “NCIS: NEW ORLEANS.”

The guest stars for the episode haven’t been revealed yet, but there is still plenty of time before it debuts on CBS. What we do know, is that Pride (Scott Bakula) and the rest of his team will be back in action. Hopefully, Dr. Loretta Wade (CCH Pounder) has found more balance in her job by then. It has been a rough first four episodes to Season 7 for her.

More news from the world of NCIS

Earlier in the night on January 3, NCIS: Los Angeles will be making its winter return. The new episode looks to be a good one, with members of the team getting interviewed about working with Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen) as he tries to make his way through the academy.

Of note, is that CBS is moving around the start times for both NCIS spin-offs again.

NCIS: New Orleans Season 7, Episode 5 begins at 9:30 p.m. ET/CT and 9 p.m. MT/PT on January 3. The time differences are due to earlier overruns on the CBS schedule for the ET and CT viewers. Keep that in mind when setting DVRs on the busy television night.

NCIS: New Orleans airs Sundays on CBS.
