Tonight Paranormal Witness recounts a couple’s encounter with the legendary Mothman.
A couple explore an old building, they have been told rumors about what happens there. They even have something to record anything they but hear, but who ever expects to finds anything other than some cheap thrills?
The man is excited as they enter the gloom, he asks: “Is anyone there? Is anyone listening. Is there anything you want to tell us? What is your name?”
On this final question the meter blips.
The woman with him gets a strange feeling and says she want to leave.
They hear a weird flapping noise, it’s just a bird right…
Stories about the Mothman started back in 1966 in Point Pleasant, West Virginia with some grave diggers seeing some sort of large bird man flying over them. A few days later two couples reported seeing a very large bird creature with glowing red eyes.
The Point Pleasant Register published a story with the headline: “Couples See Man-Sized Bird … Creature … Something”. Over the next year there were several reports and the stories soon became a local legend.
In 1975 John Keel published his book called The Mothman Prophecies, which brought the story to the attention of the wider public. Richard Gere starred in a 2002 film based on the book and there is even a festival held every year in the area.

There was even been an X-Files episode where the Mothman is mentioned. Mulder references the case in the Detour (S5, E4), which featured similar creatures with red eyes.
Some researchers claim the Mothman is an alien, something supernatural or a cryptid (animal species with no scientific evidence to support their existence).
However, some people think rather than being something supernatural or mysterious – the animal is most likely a sandhill crane. These can be almost as tall as child, with a seven foot wingspan and have reddish markings around their eyes. They also point to various hoaxes resulting from the publicity with the likes of workmen tying some torches to helium balloons.
Also worth noting that after the collapse of Silver Bridge in the winter of 1967 there were no further reports of the the Mothman, the incident claimed the lives of more than 40 people. Many belief the Mothman’s appearance was a prophetic warning of this impending tragedy.
