Anna Duggar revealed that her newest daughter’s name is indeed a nod to Grandma Mary Duggar. Maryella Hope Duggar was born last Wednesday, just before the Thanksgiving holiday.
It has been heavily speculated that Mary may have been the chosen name for the newest child Anna and Josh would be welcoming into the world. The rest of their children’s names all begin with M, so it wasn’t too much of a stretch.
On Instagram, Anna Duggar told the story of how Maryella came to be the chosen name. She said, in part, “When Josh’s grandma passed away we considered the name Mary, but we were hesitant because Grandma (Mary Duggar) was such a special lady and we wanted our daughter’s name to be a reminder of how special Grandma was and carry on her legacy, but without feeling like we were trying to replace her.”
The Duggar family has been through a lot as a whole this year, something Anna Duggar also mentioned when revealing the story behind her newest daughter’s name. She was pregnant with several of her sisters-in-law.
All welcomed little girls this year, with Abbie Grace Burnett still pregnant and welcoming a little girl in January. Joy-Anna Duggar was also due in November with a little girl, but she lost her at around 20 weeks back in June.
Despite all of the loss, the family still has hope. That is where Maryella’s middle name comes from. They are a faith-based family, and they have talked at length about it.
Anna and Josh Duggar chose Hope to pair with the name honoring his late grandma, and there was no other option after they settled on that.
Maryella Hope Duggar is the newest Duggar grandbaby and joined her cousins Addison and Bella, who were also born in November 2019. It has been a busy year for the family, and her birth is the last one.
