Derek Xiao is living in New York City and is now a member of the Big Brother 23 cast. The 24-year-old start-up founder is one of the 16 new houseguests playing the game for the first time this summer.
Originally from Baltimore, Maryland, Derek is going to try his hand at taking home the huge cash prize that comes from winning the Big Brother 2021 season. And according to him, he is willing to sacrifice an ally in order to have someone easier to beat in the final two.
In his bio for the show, Derek described himself as funny, logical, and thoughtful. Those are three traits that could go over very well in the Big Brother house, especially if he is able to blend humor into his interactions. If he then makes logical and thoughtful moves instead of emotional ones, he might make it far this summer.
“Build relationships with everyone in the house and slowly turn friendships into alliances. And then layer in unassailable logical reasoning to influence peoples’ decisions,” is what Derek said when asked what his strategy was for winning the game.
Derek Xiao joins the BB23 cast
When asked to list his favorite activities, Derek said that he is now into playing chess and surfing after spending some time in Hawaii. He also loves cooking and trying out new recipes, but Derek noted that his least favorite activity is cleaning the dishes afterward.
Entering the Big Brother house means he is very unlikely to avoid doing dishes and there may be times where he has to do them for the entire house.
More information about the Big Brother 23 season
A new BB23 cast video was released by CBS that features each of the cast members speaking to the camera. It serves as a good way to introduce everyone to the fans and for the viewers to finally hear the voices of the people playing the game this time.
Derek and the 15 other houseguests all get to say their piece during the video and it’s a fun look at the entirely brand new cast.
This season, the Big Brother live feeds are available through Paramount Plus and those feeds will be accessible on the night of the season premiere. Everything will get turned on following the West Coast episode airing, and there is already a countdown clock in action.
Since there is no Big Brother: After Dark this summer, the feeds will be the best way (outside of the CBS episodes) to keep up with the BB23 cast. We also fully expect many former houseguests to be posting about them on social media.
Derrick Levasseur already left them a note and Janelle Pierzina picked who she wants to win the first HOH. That first HOH Competition is going to be an important one and it plays out during the season premiere.
The first episode for Big Brother 23 on the CBS schedule is Wednesday, July 7 at 8/7c.
As for something amusing, former winner Evel Dick Donato wants one of the two Derek’s to go home right away.
