The Brown family of TLC’s Sister Wives is unusual in many ways. First and most obviously, they’re a polygamist family.
Patriarch Kody Brown, 51, is the husband to four women — Meri, 49, Janelle, 50, Christine, 47, and Robyn, 41. All four women have children, so the Brown family has a whopping 18 children — not including children-in-law.
Kody and his wives consider each other to be parents to all of the children, not just their biological children, so keeping track of who’s who can be tough. Here’s all you need to know.
Children with Meri
Meri is Kody’s first wife. The couple married in 1990 when Meri was just 19 years old.
In most polygamist families, the first wife is legally married to her husband, and additional wives are married in only religious ceremonies. This was the case for the Brown family until 2014.
After Robyn joined the family with her three kids from a previous marriage, Kody wanted to legally adopt her children. Being legally married to Robyn would make that easier, so Meri and Kody divorced to make the adoption possible.
In 1995, Meri and Kody welcomed their only child together, Mariah. Mariah is now 24 and came out as gay to her parents in 2016. She’s now engaged to fiancee Audrey Kriss.
Children with Janelle
Kody and Janelle married in 1993 and have six children together.
Logan, the eldest child of the family, is 25; Madison (“Maddie”) is 24; Hunter is 23; Robert Garrison, called by his middle name, is 21; Gabriel is 18; and the youngest, Savanah, is 15.
Like his half-sister Mariah, Logan is engaged. Logan’s fiancee Michelle Petty has appeared on the show in the past, but the two have been more private in recent years.
Janelle and Kody’s second child, Maddie, was the first of the Brown kids to get married. She wed Caleb Brush in June of 2016.
The two went on to have the first Brown grandchild, Axel James, in 2017 and welcomed another child, Evangalynn Kodi, last August.
Axel and Evangalynn remain the only Brown grandchildren for the time being.
Children with Christine
Christine is tied with Janelle for the most biological children — both have six.
Christine is mom to Aspyn, 25, Mykelti, 23, Paedon, 21, Gwendlyn, 18, Ysabel, 17, and Truely, 9.
Truely’s birth was featured in the show’s first season in 2010.
Christine and Kody’s two eldest children are married. Aspyn wed David Mitchell Thompson (“Mitch”) in June of 2018, while Mykelti married Antonio Padron (“Tony”) in December 2016.
Children with Robyn
Robyn brought three children from a previous relationship to the family when she married Kody in 2010. Dayton, now 20, Aurora, now 17, and Breanna, now 15, were legally adopted by Kody in 2014.
In addition to the three children that are not biologically Kody’s, Robyn and Kody are biological parents to two more children, both of whom were featured on the show since birth.
Solomon, now 8, is their first child together and Ariella, 4, is their second.
In total, that brings the Brown family to 27 members — Kody, his four wives, one child with Meri, six with Janelle, six with Christine, five with Robyn, three children-in-law, and two grandchildren.
However, this family is huge and grows quickly — there are sure to be more Browns soon.
Sister Wives airs on Sundays at 10/9c on TLC.
