Katie Thurston is rumored to have a surprise guest on the second half of her season of The Bachelorette. Rumor has it that it will be Matt James, the man who Katie competed for on the 25th season of The Bachelor.
Matt, who sent Katie home, dealt with some drama of his own throughout his season. He was indecisive as to whom he should pick from his final three women: Michelle Young, Rachael Kirkconnell, and Bri Springs.
After sending Bri and Michelle home, Matt did not put a ring on Rachael’s finger. Instead, they decided to see how their relationship would evolve outside of the confinements of The Bachelor set.
Their union was tested after racially insensitive photographs of Rachael were discovered during the show’s hiatus. Matt and Rachael have since worked through their differences and appear to be happy in their relationship.
A teaser at the end of the July 5 episode suggested that another person would make an unplanned appearance at Katie’s room at the Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort in New Mexico.
In the sneak peek seen below, a mystery person knocked on Katie’s door. Her response was one of shock as she opened to see who was standing on the other side.
“Holy s**t,” Katie reacted. “The last thing that I ever expected was you,” she said as they sat down together.
Could that person be Matt?
It has not yet been confirmed that Matt is on the other side of the door by either the show or any of its subsequent teasers.
However, it would make sense if Matt did confer with Katie about her difficulties this season as she navigated her complex feelings for more than one man.
Matt appreciated Katie’s direct manner of speaking and they clearly had a connection during her time on the season. Although they did not fall in love, they remained friendly.
Upon learning of Katie being named the next Bachelorette earlier this year, Matt told E! News that he was looking forward to watching her search for love unfold.
“She’s incredible. She’s going to do so well, and I’m excited for her to have this space to find her person,” he said. “I think that she’s going to be one of the best to ever do it. And it’s not going to be a surprise to me as we watch everyone across the country fall in love with her.”
Another theory as to who is at the door
Reality Steve assessed the trailer and deduced whom he believed the person was who showed up at Katie’s door unexpectedly.
In a blog post, he said after watching the clip he believed it was Michael Allio, which would play into a part of the clip where he shared with Katie that he missed his son.
Other theories circulating around the internet are that Katie will be visited by one of the men she previously eliminated. Fans will have to tune in to find out who surprises Katie this season.
The Bachelorette airs Mondays at 8/7c on ABC.
