Robert Englund, best known for his role as Freddy Krueger, will star on The Goldbergs tonight, bringing back his iconic character for a Halloween special. In the episode called Mister-Knifey Hands, Beverly Goldberg (Wendi McLendon-Covey) doesn’t want Adam Goldberg to watch A Nightmare on Elm Street.
However, Jackie’s parents, Jackie played by Rowan Blanchard, allow him to watch the movie.
But it is Beverly herself who has a face-off with Freddy Krueger. During the episode, Robert Englund reprises his famous character to teach Beverly a lesson about her son’s relationship with Jackie.
Hardcore horror fans may enjoy Englund’s return to the costume that clearly made him one of the most feared horror characters of all time.
Robert Englund was born in Glendale, California, and he has a long resume, despite being the face of horror flicks. Robert has appeared in over 75 feature films and starred in four TV series.
A Nightmare on Elm Street was released in 1984 but was so popular that sequels soon followed. A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge was released in 1985, followed by the third installment, A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors in 1987.
Given the popularity of Freddy Krueger, many additional projects surfaced, including TV movies, video shorts, and even video games. The Krueger franchise continued with a fourth movie called A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master from 1988, and a fifth movie released in 1989 was called A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child.
In 1991, the movie, Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare was released to end the franchise, but three years later, Wes Craven took up the challenge, creating Wes Craven’s New Nightmare. In 2003, Robert Englund returned to his character in Freddy vs. Jason from Friday the 13th. A Nightmare on Elm Street was recreated in 2010 for a newer audience, but with Englund returning.
Even though Robert Englund is best known for his horror roles, he has also starred in television shows, such as Bones, Criminal Minds, and Hawaii 5-0. Tonight, he will star on The Goldbergs.
The Goldbergs airs Wednesdays at 8/7c on ABC.
