Is Zach Tinker leaving Days of our Lives as Sonny Kiriakis? That’s the question on Days fans’ minds as Zach keeps landing more projects.
Zach first debuted as Sonny, taking over the role from Freddie Smith, in Beyond Salem Chapter 1.
The talented actor later headed over to the mothership as part of a couple of storylines involving Leo Stark (Greg Rikaart).
There’s no question that Sonny has kind of been on the back burner, especially with Will (Chandler Massey) off pursuing his budding movie career.
Now, as big news around Zach emerges and Sonny and Will are faced with a decision about their relationship, it could mean a casting change at Days of our Lives.
Let’s take a look at what we know.
Zach Tinker lands a role on Fire Country
Despite playing Sonny for the past couple of years, Zach has also managed to do other projects. Zach was briefly on the ABC hit show Big Sky this fall. This past week, Zach reprised his role of Fenmore Baldwin on The Young and the Restless.
However, it’s Zach’s new role on the CBS show Fire Country that really has Days fans questioning his future on the soap opera. The role has Zach joining Fire Country as a series regular playing newly-recruited firefighter Collin.
Deadline was the first to report Zach’s latest gig, sharing, “He plays Collin, a humble, charming, and talented probie firefighter. As the son of a famous firefighting hero, Collin carries a name that he’s constantly trying to live up to.”
No other details about Zach and the character are available at this time, but Fire Country has been renewed. Zach debuts on the show tonight at 9/8c on CBS.
Is Zach Tinker leaving Days of our Lives as Sonny Kiriakis?
Based on Zach’s new role on Fire Country, it sounds like he will be leaving Days. Adding fuel to the fire is the fact that Will just got a job that would keep him and Sonny apart for months if the latter stayed in Salem.
The soap opera has done a great job of handling Sonny and Will’s long-distance marriage so far. However, that can’t continue for the long haul.
Since Chandler has admitted he doesn’t want to return to Days of our Lives full-time and Zach’s very in demand, fans should expect the happy couple to take a break from Salem.
The good news is that the daytime drama is known for having cast members come and go all the time, so if Zach leaves as Sonny, it doesn’t mean he’s gone for good. Sonny will for sure play a pivotal part when Days addresses the death of John Aniston and reveals the fate of Victor Kiriakis.
Days of our Lives airs weekdays on Peacock.
I think Zack was never a good fit for Freddie’s replacement. He had no chemistry with Chandler and he was annoying and irritating to watch. I hope he leaves for good. Bye Zack.
Disagree
Completely disagree! He has great chemistry with Will and has grown into the part of Sonny perfectly.
