General Hospital character Emily Quartermaine (last played by Natalia Livingston) is gone but not forgotten. Despite her death in 2007, she has made a handful of appearances as a ghost for various reasons.

Yesterday on General Hospital, Emily Quartermaine was mentioned again. Monica (Leslie Charleson) talked with Drew (Billy Miller) and Kim (Tamara Braun) about what her adopted daughter went through with cancer as well. She overheard them talking about Oscar (Garren Stitt) and now, she thinks she can help.

Emily’s cancer

Emily Quartermaine kept her breast cancer diagnosis secret until it was almost too late. Her biological mother died from the disease and she was convinced that the treatment would be worse than dying from the disease. At the last minute, Emily decided to get the treatment and she was able to beat it.

Tragic death

During November sweeps back in 2007, Emily Quartermaine was strangled by Diego Alcazar (Ignacio Serricchio). He was the Text Message Killer and claimed several victims before being caught. Unfortunately, Emily was in the wrong place at the wrong time and was killed. Nikolas (formerly Tyler Christopher) was devastated by her death, especially because it happened at his gala.

Diego Alcazar attacked several victims during his reign of terror. He is also the reason for Georgie Jones’ (Lindze Letherman) death. Along with Emily and Georgie, two others were also murdered. Carly (Laura Wright), Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn), Sam (Kelly Monaco), and Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) were also attacked but all survived.

While Emily Quartermaine may be gone, she lives on with her namesake. Sam and Drew named their little girl after her. Although it has been a few years since she appeared, ruling out another surprise visit would be jumping the gun. With the Oscar storyline happening, a visit from ghost Emily could easily happen.

General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC.
