Tonight, The Flash returns with an intense episode as Barry faces one of his greatest enemies without his powers. What does the promo for The Exorcism of Nash Wells reveal about tonight’s episode?

When we last saw The Flash, the Speed Force had died and Barry was facing the potential loss of his speed. He’s definitely not at peace with the possibility, especially since his greatest enemy, Eobard Thawne, has somehow possessed Nash Wells and is threatening everything Barry loves.

Thawne returns to torment Barry on the newest episode of The Flash.

Barry experiences lots of angst during this short promo. He looks dejected as Iris (well, Mirror Iris) tries to console him.

Someone also warns Barry, saying, “Don’t let him get to you!” This happens as he pushes Thawne up against a wall and then Thawne taunts Barry with his red eyes.

“Too late,” Thawne promises.

Barry tells Caitlin he wants to use a booster to enhance his speed, but we all know how Caitlin feels about speed steroids. She does not approve, knowing that the harm the booster could do to Barry isn’t worth the risk for increased speed. Apparently, the temptation to use dangerous technology needs to be faced time and time again.

Nevertheless, Barry feels constant pressure from Thawne, who tells him he’s going to be too weak to stop him.

“Then the fun is really gonna begin,” taunts Thawne.

Out of all his enemies, Thawne is the one that gets to Barry the most by causing the most pain and the most doubt. After all, his mentor disguise not only betrayed Barry but was also the cause of all his childhood trauma.

There is still no sign that Iris is returning from the Mirrorverse, but how long can her Mirror Clone pretend?

Aside from all that, it doesn’t look like Iris will get out of the Mirrorverse this week, but people will start asking questions. Mirror Iris can only hide her true nature for so long, and with Kamilla missing, this task is going to make hiding even more difficult.

As for Eobard Thawne, the prospect of a storyline allowing Tom Cavanagh to play any alternate versions of Harrison Wells is exciting for fans. He is the face of the multiverse — which made him the perfect choice to play Pariah in Crisis — and so watching any new twist on the character is decidedly exhilarating.

The question is, where did Thawne come from and how did he possess Nash’s body? And what about those other multiverse ghosts Nash had been chasing? He also saw Harry and Sherloque, so what happened to them and where did they come from?

Perhaps our multiverse questions will soon be answered.

The Flash airs Tuesdays at 8/7 C on The CW.
