The penultimate episode of This Is Us Season 4 gives fans a glimpse at what life would have been like for the Pearson family if Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) had lived.
At the end of last week’s episode (Randall) told Kevin (Justin Hartley), he thought daily about what life would have been like if he had saved Jack from dying in the fire. It was a pivotal revelation setting up for tonight’s episode.
Viewers will have a front-row seat to see how Randall envisions his life if Jack had not died that fateful night.
This Is Us: Sneak peek details
In a sneak peek video obtained by Entertainment Weekly, the Pearson family is celebrating Thanksgiving in the present day. The whole family is together, including Randall’s biological father, William (Ron Cephas Jones). Yes, the “what if” episode is not only about Jack living but William too.
Randall first notices Rebecca’s (Mandy Moore) memory loss after she loses her phone. However, instead of keeping it to himself, Randall can turn to Jack.
Fans quickly learn from the preview video Randall is telling his altered version of life to his new therapist Dr. Leigh (Pamela Adlon). The good doctor calls Randall out for playing games. She thinks Randall is not honest with his idyllic version of a life he believes he missed out on because Jack died.

“Guys @SterlingKBrown next week is just… he’s off the charts. This whole cast is crazy. Writers are crazy. @kenolin1 is legit crazy. Two to go. Brace for impact,” tweeted Dan.

It is not unusual for the show creator to warn fans ahead of an episode. The NBC drama is known for packing a punch and causing many tears to be shed weekly.
Based on the promo for This Is Us Season 4 Episode 17, After the Fire, viewers are going to need an entire box of tissues. The glimpses of older Jack in the preview is enough to get fans’ eyes watering. Now imagine a whole episode of life with Papa Pearson.
There are only two episodes left of the hit drama. The Season 4 finale has already promised to answer some of burning questions for fans.
Who is Kevin’s pregnant fiancée? Why are Kevin and Randall not speaking by The Big 3’s 40th birthday? Those are two questions that will be answered before the season ends.
