Syfy’s excellent space drama The Expanse will return on February 8th and promises more intrigue and action as the epic tale unfolds across the Solar System.
The show is based on the book series by James S. A. Corey and is set 200 years in the future, where Mars and the astroid belt have been colonised by Earth.
However, both have developed their own cultures and are independent from Earth. Indeed tensions are growing as politicians make power plays, corruption undermines the rule of law and an arms race threatens to make a cold war go hot.
The first season saw Jim Holden, an officer on an ice mining ship, come across an abandoned spacecraft harbouring a deadly and seemingly alien secret.
Elsewhere in the Solar System, the street wise belt Detective Joe Miller is searching for a missing girl whose story has caught his attention.
His investigation leads him to the same ship and eventually to Holden. They find themselves caught between revolutionaries, shadowy corporations and two planets ramping up the aggressive rhetoric.
Back on Earth United Nations official Chrisjen Avasarala starts to unravel other threads of a conspiracy that is connected to the intrigue Miller and Holden are embroiled in.
The second season will no doubt see rising tensions and new possibly alien threats…we can’t wait!
Steven Strait plays Jim Holden, Thomas Jane stars as Joe Miller and Shohreh Aghdashloo plays Chrisjen Avasarala.
Also, worth mentioning National Geographic’s miniseries Mars starts on Monday. It is set in 2033 as the first colonists from Earth arrive on Mars.
The Expanse will return for Season 2 February 8th on Syfy.
