The first trailer for the brand new Hellboy was released yesterday — dramatically reuniting fans with the character from Dark Horse Comics.
In the 2019 new movie, Hellboy is caught between two worlds — the supernatural and the human world — while trying to battle an ancient sorceress, who wants revenge.
But you may have noticed that Ron Pearlman has not returned to the role of Hellboy, with David Harbour playing the character in the 2019 movie. In case that name doesn’t ring a bell, here’s what you need to know about him.
Harbour is best known for his role as Jim Hopper on the Netflix sensation Stranger Things, but has a long list of other memorable credits. He also played Hawk on the TV series Animals, Ronnie in Human Affairs, Dennison in Sleepless, Dexter Tolliver in Suicide Squad, and John Morris in Black Mass.
David has also starred in Crisis in Six Scenes, State of Affairs, Banshee, The Newsroom, Manhattan, A Walk Among the Tombstones, The Equalizer, Rake, Parkland, Snitch, Elementary, Between Us, End of Watch, Blue, and Pan Am from 2012.
But that’s not all! He’s also had guest roles on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and Hack, and played Randall Malone in Brokeback Mountain from 2005.
Harbour also has experience working in theater, and has been nominated for various awards during his career, including a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Featured Role back in 2005 for his work in the play, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Wolf?
David Harbour graduated from Dartmouth College with majors in drama and Italian back in 1997, and he continues to perfect his craft under the direction of his acting teacher, Tony Greco. Greco also worked with Philip Seymour Hoffman.
IMDb claims that his salary for Stranger Things was $80,000 per episode during the first two seasons, but that his pay jumped tremendously for the third season, pulling in a $350,000 paycheck per episode. The third season has yet to air on Netflix but is scheduled to come out next year.
Harbour was nominated for a 2018 Emmy Award for Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his role in Stranger Things, but he lost to Peter Dinklage for his work in Game of Thrones.
Harbour was previously engaged to Maria Thayer. Back in September of this year, he was spotted on the Emmy Awards red carpet with Alison Sudol, who Just Jared described as being his girlfriend.
According to Ranker, Harbour also previously dated another Hollywood star, Julia Stiles. If you haven’t come across it before, Harbour has a hilarious Instagram account that’s worth following.
This is the first time that David Harbour has taken the role of Hellboy. In the 2004 original movie, and in the 2008 sequel, Hellboy II: The Golden Army, the character was played by former Sons of Anarchy star Ron Pearlman.
The new 2019 Hellboy movie also stars Milla Jovovich, Ian McShane, Sasha Lane, Thomas Haden Church, and Penelope Mitchell.
Hellboy is due out in theaters on April 12, 2019.
